Is motorcycle periodic inspection a new policy?

Since 1999, Environmental Protection Administration, Executive Yuan has started enforcing motorcycle periodic inspection. On Oct. 4, 2004, it was promulgated that the frequency of motorcycle periodic inspection was changed to one exhaust inspection per year, one year after the motorcycle licensing. In 2008, the regulation was amended as “three-year-older motorcycles shall be periodically inspected for its exhaust on one month before or after the original date of issuing vehicle registration”. It was also mentioned that the motorcycles, that are not periodically inspected, could not receive re-issued vehicle registration and their owners would be imposed a NTD 2,000 fine.
